Power
There are many kinds of forklifts which are operated by propane gas. Forklifts which utilize propane are very simple to refill. The gas is stored inside a pressurized tank on the back of the truck. The propane is pushed into the engine, where it is converted into vapor and then the vapor combines with air. The throttle of the forklift is used to be able to control the vapor flow. A spark plug ignites the mixture of air and vapor creating pressure that makes the pistons move. The pistons turn the wheels and power the hydraulic pump.
Propane powered forklifts are recommended for use in other buildings and warehouses because they are clean burning with low emissions.
Hydraulics
What enables a forklift to lift and move heavy things from one location to another is the hydraulic system. Tubes, cylinders and a pump make up the hydraulic system. The pump forces dense fluid through the tubing and into the cylinders. The build up of pressure pushes a piston, which lifts the forks. When the forks are lowered by the operator, the hydraulic fluid flows out of the cylinders and back in the pump.
Steering
Where maneuverability is required, propane forklifts are the most suitable. Unlike an automobile, a forklift uses its rear wheels to turn, which allows the forklift to quickly pivot on a tight radius.
