History

Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was initially founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The original company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.



The cornerstone for SMAG was laid in the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group acquired a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machinery. During 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand in the succeeding years.
