Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are made of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to keep the workers safe and help to secure their tools.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best utilized for smooth surfaces like concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machines utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus just operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The rough terrain scissor lift and the standard scissor lift use identical lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is particularly made for uneven surfaces. These models also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive so as to navigate through difficult and muddy terrain easily.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam that elevates both vertically and diagonally. This specific unit has a small work platform that houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms which are connected with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting equipment has a small work platform or a bucket that is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast so as to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machines. These equipment offer an ideal solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is very important to note that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
