Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety

About 200 deaths per year are a result of accidents involving forklifts, or lift trucks. Proper inspection and maintenance of forklift tires could help to reduce the risk of mishaps.

Pre-Work Inspection

The tires on the lift truck should be inspected at the beginning of every shift, inspected for signs of damage and wear. The air pressure in the tires should be inspected to ensure the pressure is not very low. Low tire pressure can make the equipment prone to tip-overs when lifting loads.

Kinds of Tires

The selection of tire type should be based on the kind of surface on which the lift truck would be utilized. For indoor applications, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are recommended. For smoother surfaces, tires tend to be smaller. Bigger pneumatic tires are great for lift trucks for outdoor use. Pneumatic tires could grip rough surfaces well because they are air-filled and have a rubber tread.

Other factors

Any lift truck used on a continual basis should be inspected at the end of each shift, according to Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines. The tires must be inspected once more for any indication of damage, like cuts or wear.

Forklift Safety

Forklift safety is essential for any employee or employer using a lift truck since lift truck mishaps can be serious causing personal injuries and even death. Even minor accidents could cost you and your business money if the forklift or the goods are damaged in an accident. Be certain you are well informed regarding forklift safety issues.
