Warehouse Forklift Maintenance
Having a proper maintenance program for forklifts would help to increase the lifespan of the equipment and is also a critical factor to the safe use of the equipment. Completing regular forklift inspections and performing preventive maintenance on a regular basis would help to ensure the safe and efficient use of the machine.
Daily Checklist
The daily checklist is an important tool in any forklift maintenance program. These checklists will help to document any and all possible problems. They are required by the OSHA or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The daily checklists can also be audited by OSHA during any routine inspection. Operators must complete the inspection from the beginning of their shift. If any major problems are found, the forklift could not be utilized until the issue has been fixed.
Maintenance and Safety Go Hand-in-Hand
Every year around 100 people are injured in forklift mishaps in the USA. Statistics show that around 20,000 individuals would be seriously injured as a result of a forklift mishap. This number translates to represent 54 individuals a day, 7 days a week, for the whole year. Many of these mishaps could be prevented easily if the forklift had been correctly serviced and maintained. In some circumstances, it may seem like a cost savings to skip or delay routine maintenance, although, these savings would pale in comparison to the cost of one mishap.
Things to be Serviced
In the owner's handbook of each and every equipment, the manufacturer would include a maintenance schedule. These schedules will vary greatly, depending on the manufacturer and the type of machinery. Every schedule would consist of a variety of basic items. Like for instance, in a combustion engine, the engine oil and the oil filter would need to be replaced periodically. Hydraulic levels must be inspected too. Be certain to check hoses for any indications of cracking. Other items involve the brakes, the transmission and the electrical systems of the forklift.
